Arriving by plane - Fiumicino Airport

The main international airport of Rome is the "Leonardo da Vinci" airport in Fiumicino, located at about 30 km southwest from downtown. Connections to the city are available by train and by taxi.

From Fiumicino airport by train

  • Proceed to the railway station in the airport. The direct train "Leonardo Express" to Roma Termini central station leaves every half an hour, from 6:38 in the morning to 23:08 in the evening (later there is a night bus every hour).
    The train trip takes 30 minutes.

    Tickets should be stamped before getting into the train (there are yellow boxes close to the platforms).
  • As an alternative it is possible to take FL1 Regional train (toward Fara Sabina or Orte) which stops in some of the main Roman railway stations (Tiburtina, Tuscolana, Ostiense, Trastevere). It leaves the airport usually every 15 minutes, and on holidays, every 30 minutes.
    The cost is 8,00 euros.
    Journey duration: 45 minutes.
    Also these tickets should be stamped before getting into the train (there are yellow boxes close to the platforms).

From Fiumicino airport by taxi

  • Public taxis are white, with a code and the sign of the city of Roma on the doors, and with a taximeter.
    From the Fiumicino airport to any place downtown (within the Aurelian city walls), the flat rate is 48,00 Euro (inclusive luggage, up to four passengers, night fares apply).

    On most taxis you can pay by credit card. Please ask in advance. A trip to the main railway station (Stazione Termini) takes about 45 minutes, except in rush hours.

From Fiumicino airport by coach

  • Terravision. The ticket costs 4 Euro one-way and 8 Euro return if purchased online (6/11 if purchased at the bus stop). Approximately every 35 minutes (after 8.00 a.m.). Journey time: 60 minutes. For more information about schedules and fares please click here.

Arriving by plane - Ciampino Airport

The second international airport of Rome is in Ciampino, located about 17 km south from downtown.

From Ciampino airport by coach

Direct coach transfer to Roma Termini central station is handled by private companies.

  • Terravision. The ticket costs 4 Euro one-way and 8 Euro return if purchased online (6/11 if purchased at the bus stop). Approximately every 20 minutes (after 8.00 a.m.). Journey time: 40 minutes. For more information about schedules and fares please click here.
  • SIT Bus Shuttle. The ticket costs 5 Euro one-way and 10 Euro return if purchased online (6/11 if purchased at the bus stop). Every 35 minutes (after 8:30 a.m.). Journey time: 65 minutes. For more information about schedules and fares please click here.
  • Schiaffini. Tickets can be purchased in the arrival hall. The cost is 3,90 Euro one-way. The service has many intermediate stops and ends close to Termini station. For more information about schedules and fares please visit the web site.

From Ciampino Airport by Train/Metro

The closest train station to Ciampino Airport is situated in the nearby town of Ciampino. Non-direct train-transfer are available:

  • Schiaffini bus service can be taken toward Ciampino railway Station: bus to Ciampino Railway Station + Train to Termini Station. Every 20 minutes. Time: 18 minutes;
  • Co.tra.l. line bus (public transportation service) to Subway (Metro) Station Anagnina + Metro Line A from Anagnina to Termini, or to Ciampino railway Station + train to Termini Station.

From Ciampino Airport by Taxi

Public taxis are available just outside the arrival hall. The flat rate to any place downtown within the Aurelian city Walls is 30,00 Euro. For other directions, please click here.

From Fiumicino or Ciampino Airports by Shuttle - Private transfer

We can suggest a door to door shuttle service provided by Airport Shuttle Bus:

  • from Fiumicino airport to Rome: 25 Euro 1st passenger, +6 Euro for each additional passenger (up to 8);
  • from Ciampino airport to Rome: 25 Euro 1st passenger, +5 Euro for each additional passenger (up to 8);

Arriving by train

The central railway station is Roma Termini. Information on schedules, on-line reservation and tickets for any train connection from/to Roma Termini can be found at www.trenitalia.com.

From Roma Termini railway station to the conference site

The National Roman Museum in Palazzo Massimo is situated very close to the Termini railway station. To reach the building, exit the railway station or the metro-stop in the direction of the bus-station: you will find the entrance of Palazzo Massimo just in front of Termini bus Station, or on the left if walking in direction of Piazza della Repubblica. The walk takes few minutes (see the map below).

The Roma Termini railway station is a stop for all the subway lines (Metro A, Metro B and Metro B1) and for many bus connections going everywhere in the city. Most of the hotels in the list provided the website are close to the station (some reachable on foot, even when carrying a luggage).

  • If you wish to go by public buses, you can take the one of the many buses stopping at Termini Station (C2, H, 36, 38, 40, 64, 86, 90, 92, 105, 170, 175, 217, 310, 360, 714, 910) and walk to the conference site in few minutes.
  • Few trains (including local trains from Fiumicino Airport) stop in Tiburtina Station. Tiburtina Station is less than 30 minutes from Palazzo Massimo, and it is connected by 492 and 649 bus lines (see map for the bus stops) and with the Metro lines B and B1.

The public transportation service of Rome is handled by atac Roma. Several fares are available for the integrated network of transportations (all buses, Metros, tram and local trains within the city of Rome).

Arriving by car

It is advisable not to use cars in the center of Rome. The conference site is very close to the central area of Rome that is closed for private cars from 8.00 to 18.00 (Sunday excluded).
